I recorded this video on one of the slower days for me this past season with eagles fishing at the far distance, often having their back turned towards me. Seeing this eagle flying low above the water, I’ve decided to switch my camera to video mode. I often do this when waiting for “real” action, simply to practice my focus and tracking skills. I didn’t hope for much. The moment the eagle caught the fish, turned and started to fly towards me, I kept saying to myself “I knew it! I knew it! I should have been taking photographs not video!”. I would love to have the photos of that eagle with its wings wide spread, with the foliage colors in the background. But on the other hand, I have this footage 😜

Actually, situations like this happen to me very often. At the moment I’m taking photographs, I tell myself “I should be taking video”. And when I record the video, I regret on not taking the photographs. I can’t win! 🙈😂

I’m always interested in acquiring the photographs first. Video comes second. Mostly, because it is harder to get it. The moment I get the shots I’m satisfied with, or there is opportunity for the bird to stay in one place for longer, I switch to recording some videos. Lately though, when visiting places that I have a lot of shots from, I start recording more videos.

I will be sharing more video tips in upcoming weeks/months. Check back if you are interested.

I’ve recorded this video this past Fall using tips shared in my “Bald Eagles of the Conowingo Dam, Maryland” guide/ebook: https://www.greggard.com/location-guides/bald-eagles-conowingo-dam-maryland-guide
