Young Peregrine Falcon - NJ

Fledgling Peregrine Falcon in the rain:

Juvenile Peregrine Falcon - NJ

Juvenile Peregrine Falcon - NJ

Taking advantage of a passing shower I photographed this young peregrine on its first week out of the nest/eerie. To make the rain more visible, I used a slow shutter speed of 1/50s. This photo was taken handheld at 800mm! How, you may ask? πŸ˜‰ These kind of slow shutter speeds are possible to get handheld with an amazing 6.5 stop image stabilization of the Panasonic G9 camera paired with Leica 100-400mm lens.

and here is a short, slow-motion clip showing the same bird shaking off the water:

Pretty cool, isn’t? 😊

This photograph, and video, was taken in the natural habitat of the Palisades Interstate Park, New Jersey.
