I know it is not a popular thing with many people but I’m really hoping for a lot of snow this winter. It produces many great opportunities to photograph wildlife in a different way. Like this owl that I found resting in the snow covered ground. This particular owl was very cooperative and offered great looks for quite some time, until a Rough-legged Hawk flew by and flushed it 🙈

Tip:

To achieve this effect, of an owl hiding behind the snow, I simply laid down on my stomach. There was a bank of snow in the foreground that was a little bit higher. Instead of having my lens above it, I lowered it a little bit more to include the snow in the foreground to achieve this “fading”/gradient effect.
