Semipalmated Plover - New Jersey
Adult Semipalmated Plover taking a short break during its search for food along the incoming tide at the Jersey shore:
Semipalmated Plovers are most common of the small plovers during the Spring and Fall migration on both coast. The name "semipalmated" refers to partial webbing between the bird's toes. These plovers typically run a few steps and then pause, then run again, pecking at the ground whenever they spot something edible.
I photographed this molting adult during the Fall migration in the Ocean County, New Jersey.
