Even thought this season barely started, it is already one for the books!

Many long time visitors to the Black Dirt region in Orange County, New York agree that short-eared owls were never this active there, as this year. Since mid November these owls can be seen hunting and fighting with each other as early as 2 hours before the sunset! I couldn't believe my eyes first time I saw them this active so early in a day. And this happens every day! Simply amazing! 

If you have an idea what is causing this, please feel free to share your thoughts. Let me add, that there is no shortage in food, there is no snow cover and temperatures were very mild so far...
